As a faculty member of Jamesville-DeWitt, teachers are offered a wide variety of benefits, and a highly competitive salary in an affordable community. Incremental increases are provided upon completion of graduate hours in education and upon receipt of a masters and/or higher degree. J-D also gives bonuses to teachers who earn tenure, receive advanced degrees and for longevity in the District.

One of the most comprehensive health and dental plans is offered to employees of the District. An optional plan benefit allows pre-tax dollars – in an amount determined by the insured – to be deducted each pay period to cover deductibles and other medical expenses.

As a teacher, you gain membership in the New York State Teachers’ Retirement Plan. This plan is considered to be one of the best available in the United States.

Jamesville-DeWitt believes in the value of life-long learning and offers a wide variety of professional growth opportunities. Being in close proximity to one of the finest higher learning institutions in the world, J-D has a strong relationship with Syracuse University. Through this partnership, teachers have the chance to complete their masters and/or higher degrees in education within the required time period under New York State certification, with J-D absorbing much, if not all, of the cost. S.U. is only one of the exemplary institutions in Central New York that offers continuing education in the teaching field. In fact, there are 40 college and universities within a 100 mile radius of Syracuse.

All of these higher educational institutions offer a wealth of opportunity. The pursuit of higher education is an expectation, rather than a dream, for our faculty. The colleges and universities that serve our community are able to meet very high expectations.

Jamesville-DeWitt’s mentoring program teams all new staff members with a veteran staff member from the District. It is the first step in their comprehensive professional development program, designed to help you make a smooth transition into your new role as a member of the J-D team.

The District puts a high value on the knowledge and opinions of its faculty. J-D employs the value of their expertise in the Shared Decision-Making System. Each building has a team consisting of teachers, administrators and parents who discuss and make recommendations for decisions regarding their school and the District in general.

Another opportunity for teachers is the Professional Growth Plan. In lieu of the standard evaluation system, teachers in good standing can opt to study educational issues that are of a personal interest and present them to the faculty members in some form. Sabbaticals and summer mini-grants are also an option for teachers to pursue educational development on a more intense level.

J-D encourages and provides financing in support of its teachers attending educational conferences and seminars in New York State.
